Q. Can a woman visit a gynecologist during Ramadan?

A. (#DrZakirNaik): For a lady to visit a gynecologist while she is fasting it is not prohibited but she should take care that the gynecologist she visits is a lady because she has to maintain the hijab. It is not advisable or rather it is haraam that she goes to a gent gynecologist. Unless there is no one in that area and it is an emergency or a death threat situation then if she doesn’t find a lady gynecologist and she goes to a gent gynecologist then it can be excused as a last resort. Now when she visits a gynecologist if an examination is done If it is a PV (per vaginal or bi-manual examination) and if finger is inserted into the vagina it does not break the fast neither if an instrument is inserted into the vagina for any testing or examination, it will not break the fast. Furthermore if any tube is inserted into the urethra or uterus for further examination it will not break the fast as it does not involve any food or nourishment going into the body.
