Q. The Bible says… ‘When Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the fish, so shall the son of man, be for 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth.’ Did Jesus peace be upon him, scientifically fulfill the sign of Jonah?

Sign of JonahA. (Dr. Zakir): What the sister is referring to, is the verse of the Bible, Gospel of Mathew, Chapter No 12, Verse No. 38 and 40, ‘when people  asked Jesus Christ (peace be upon him)… ‘Show me a sign, show me a miracle’. Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), says… ‘You evil and adulteration’s generation, seeketh after a sign, no sign shall be given to you, but the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the whale, so shall the son of man be 3 days and 3 nights, in the heart of the earth’ – Sign of Jonah. Jesus Christ peace be upon him, puts all his eggs in one basket. And if you go to the sign of Jonah… the book of Jonah is less than 2 pages, and most of us know. And if you analyze, that Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights – but Jesus Christ peace be upon him, we know from the Gospels, that he was put on the cross – the alleged crucification. By late evening, he was brought down from the cross and put in a sepulchre – And on Sunday morning if you see, the stone is moved away, and the sepulchre is completely empty. So Jesus Christ peace be upon him, is in the tomb, on Friday night.’ He was there in Saturday morning, one day, one night. And he was there Saturday night – so two nights and one day. And Sunday morning the tomb was empty. So Jesus Christ peace be upon him, was there for two nights, and one day – It is not 3 days and 3 nights. Dr. William Campbell gives the reply in his book, that… ‘You know, part of the day can be counted as one day – And if a patient comes to me, who is sick on Saturday night – on Monday morning, and if I ask him… ‘How long are you sick for ? ’ He will say… ‘ 3 days.’ I agree with you – Concordance approach, I agree – I am very generous. You say part of the day, is full day – I agree with you. So Saturday night, part of the day – one day. Sunday, part of the day, full day – one – good. Monday part of the day full day – no problem. If patient says… ‘3 days’ – No objection. But no patient will ever say… ‘3 days and 3 nights.’ I challenge. I have Alhamdulillah, met various patients – I have not come across a single patient, including Christian missionaries, who have ever told to me – who were sick in the night, day before yesterday, saying… ‘I am sick for 3 days, 3 nights.’ So Jesus Christ peace be upon him, did not say… ‘3 days’ – Jesus Christ peace be upon him said… ‘3 days and 3 nights.’ So it is a mathematical error – Scientifically, Jesus Christ peace be upon him, did not prove. And further more, the prophecy says… ‘As Jonah was, so shallthe son of man be.’ Jonah was – How? How was Jonah in the belly of the Whale?… Belly of the fish… Dead or alive? Alive – When he was thrown over board, he was alive. In the belly of the whale, he goes around the ocean, dead or alive? – Alive. He prays to Almighty God… dead or alive ? – Alive! He is vomited out on the seashore – Dead of alive? Alive, alive, alive, alive. When I ask the Christians… ‘How was Jesus Christ peace be upon him, in the sepulchre… in the tomb – Dead of alive?’ They tell me… ‘Dead.’ If he is dead, he has not fulfilled the sign. You can refer to my video cassette ‘Was Jesus Christ peace be upon him really crucified ?’ – I have proved that Jesus Christ peace be upon him was not crucified. As the Qur’an says in Surah Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse No. 157… (Arabic) … ‘They did not kill him, neither did they crucify him – It was only made to appear so.’

  2. You are not the first to wonder about this. For certain tradition says Jesus was buried on Friday night (Good Friday) and arose on Sunday morning (Easter Sunday) – and how can you squeeze in three days and three nights between Friday evening and Sunday morning?

    To top it all said, in fact, Jesus, at one of the conversations he had with his disciples about his death, that the only sign that would be given as proof that he was indeed the Messiah, was the period during which he would lie dead and buried:

    “An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, but there will be no other sign than Jonah sign. For as Jonah was in the whale’s belly three days and three nights, the Son of man be in the earth for three days and three nights “(Matthew 12: 39-40)
    “[Jesus] began to teach them saying that the Son of man must suffer many things … and be killed, and rise after three days” (Mark 8:31)

    “Three days and three nights.” “After three days.” Three days. 72 hours …

    Assuming that Jesus gave the only sign he promised – that is, if he really was the Messiah – as appears to the traditional calculation of the time between the crucifixion and resurrection as somewhat unreasonable …

    If we assume that Jesus – as the tradition says – was buried at dusk on Good Friday afternoon, then a night and a day (ie one day) then be Holy Saturday night, two nights and two days (ie two days) then would be Easter Sunday evening, and three nights and three days (ie three days) then would be the evening Easter Monday, that Monday evening.

    But the Master arose demonstrably far ahead of Monday night! He was already risen when the women came to his tomb on Sunday morning – “while it was still dark” (Jn 20: 1), then at night, before the dawn …

    Over the years there have been many attempts to explain this contradiction, but how you look, how you try to count, how you try to manipulate the day, night and day concept – they have for example suggested that it concerned ” parts of days and nights, “and that” the whole Saturday and a small part of Friday and Sunday “with a Hebrew expression could be called” Three Days “- it is an absolute impossibility to squeeze more than two nights between Friday evening and Sunday morning (the night of Saturday and Sunday night).

    Does this mean that Jesus is not completed the only sign he promised to give that he was indeed the Messiah – that he did not appear as he said? No. The case confirmed the angel at the tomb:

    “He is not here: for he is risen, as He foretold” (Matthew 28: 6)
    In other words – he rose after three days and three nights – exactly as he predicted.

    The Bible actually gives himself the explanation of the whole mystery …

    (What we first of all have to remember is that according to Jewish approach began the day as the sun went down, that in turn evening-night-morning-day-afternoon. This of course to some of us when we read Bible stories, because we find it difficult to imagine that the day begins at sunset! It means that when you talk about the evening a certain day or a certain date, it is the beginning of the day.)

    That Jesus was crucified and buried the day before the Sabbath appears indeed clearly of the Bible. But it was the regular weekly Sabbath, ie Saturday? A few Bible passages, as most seem to have overlooked, shows that this may not have been the case!

    Mark says that, following the Sabbath that followed the crucifixion day, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to anoint the body of Jesus (Mark 16: 1).

    And Luke tells us that when women are ordained spices and ointment, spent the Sabbath in peace (Luke 23:56).

    Easter week is thus contained two Sabbaths. It was partly the annual Sabbath (15 Nisan), as in John 19:31 is called a “high day” (ie, the Sabbath which began unleavened bread weeklong festival), and the regular weekly Sabbath, Saturday (17 Nisan).

    What has been the cause of the whole problem is the fact that according to the Bible, Jesus was crucified and buried the day before the Sabbath. But – it is said nowhere in the Bible that it is the weekly Sabbath, Saturday, referred to!

    What the Bible says is the following:

    a) that Jesus died at three or four o’clock in the afternoon on Preparation Day (John 19:31), same day (the 14th of the month of Nisan) that the paschal lamb was slaughtered and eaten (slaughter and the meal took place at the beginning of the 14th, ie the evening before the crucifixion of Jesus, who of course took place in the end of the day);
    b) that Jesus was buried at sunset on the day he was crucified, ie on 14 Nisan (Luke 23: 53-54);

    c) the following day (ie on the 15th of Nisan), which of course began at sunset when Jesus was buried, was a Sabbath day (Mark 15:42), a “high day” (John 19:31);

    d) that the women following day, the day after the Sabbath, ie on 16 Nisan, bought herbs and oils (Mark 16: 1);

    e) that after they bought the herbs and oils rested during the following Shabbat (the weekly Sabbath, Saturday), which thus fell on 17 Nisan (Luke 23:56);

    f) that they went to the tomb next night (after the “Sabbath”) before it brightened “the first day” (18 Nisan), ie the night between Saturday and Sunday (Matthew 28: 1); and

    g) that Jesus then, before the sun rose on Sunday morning, was already resurrected (Matthew 28: 6)

    Since Jesus was buried at sunset that ended the preparation, must be resurrection to have taken place at sunset three days later – that is, at the end of the third day after the funeral – and the only sunset that is possible (since Jesus was already resurrected Saturday night) is the sunset on Saturday night!

    Thus, all the pieces fall into place!

    Three days and nights before Saturday means that Jesus was executed on Wednesday afternoon and was buried at sunset on Wednesday evening (the year in which Jesus died, fell accordingly preparation, 14 Nisan, when the Passover lamb was slaughtered and eaten, on a Wednesday). The next day, Thursday, was a “high day” – the day that began the unleavened bread the weekend week. Day “after the sabbath” (ie Friday) bought the women anointing and the following day – the regular weekly Sabbath, Saturday – they remained in silence. Saturday night they went to the tomb and got there before it had even begun to brighten, to find that the tomb was empty, and their Lord resurrected and gone.

    Jesus had fulfilled his promise! Exactly three days and nights, exactly three days after the funeral, he had risen from the dead!

    Jesus had proved that he was indeed the Messiah – the Son of God!

  3. Jonah was dead inside the belly of the fish.
    The holly scripture Is the word of God.
    No mistake, no contradiction ,no corruption ,
    No pornography.

    Jonah 2. 2…… I cried out to the Lord in my great trouble, and He answered me.
    I CALLED TO YOU FROM THE LAND OF THE DEAD,and Lord You heard me.

    Jonah 2 6…..I sank down to the very roots of the mountains.Iwas imprisoned in the earth,WHOSE GATES LOCK SHUT FOREVER.But you, O lord my God,

    10. Then the Lord Ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.

    We know for sure Jonah was dead inside the belly of the fish naturelly and we know for sure Jonah was alive from the dead by the power of The Almighty God.

    So we know for sure The Lord Jesus never tell a lie.

    • These verses bear a witness against your interpretation…

      it says “i called to you from the land of the dead”:
      it is obviously understood, the belly of the whale was the land of the dead, how can a dead person make a supplication?

      “I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O lord my God,
      snatched me from the jaw of Death!” :
      means he was trapped in the belly of the whale whose gates (meaning jaws of the whale) were shut.

      “as my life was slipping away”:
      clearly states that he was slowly dying, but not dead yet.

      i suggest you should read the correct commentary of these verses rather than making your own interpretations.

      • Can. A dead person make supplication??? Very good question!!!

        According to holy bible yes .
        Lukas 16. 19
        Lazarus ,the rich and Abraham
        John 8 56
        Abraham rejoyced to see my day.He saw it and was glad.
        Mat 17. 1. And behold there appeared
        To them Moses and Elijah talking with Him.

  4. Assalamu Alaikum..If i take vudhoo in the bathroom, is it permissable?
    My vudhoo may get valid or not?
    There are lots of duas while taking vudhoo. Is it necessary to say it? Or just say bismillah in the beginning?
